New features
Software monitoring
NDD Orbix's software monitoring feature provides a centralized and remote solution for identifying, monitoring and managing software installed on computers.
With features such as a complete inventory, definition of allowed and forbidden software (white/black list), recording the number of licenses and computers allowed to use them, and categorization, companies ensure greater compliance, security and operational efficiency.
The main benefits of this functionality are:
Optimization of costs and features
Centralized and up-to-date inventory
Support for license control
Reduced security risks
Improved compliance and governance
Personalized alerts
After installing and activating the DCA and Cloud Connector agent in the customer's environment, data from the software installed on the computers is collected and sent to the cloud. This data is processed and made available on the NDD Orbix portal, where it is possible to carry out complete monitoring and configure alerts.
In addition, to make it easier to connect other solutions to NDD Orbix and offer an automated approach to software monitoring, we have made a new integration API available.
For more information on the functionality, go to Software monitoring.
For instructions on how to start monitoring software, go to Monitoring software.
For more details on the endpoint, methods, parameters, sample requests and responses returned, go to Software API.
The DCA and Cloud Connector (Windows) agent must be updated to version 1.1.19, as instructed at Update the agent or gateway on portal.
Alerts for software monitoring
We have implemented new alerts for software monitoring to offer greater control and proactivity, as well as guaranteeing continuity of operations:
Antivirus with outdated database: the database of antivirus or security software is out of date. This can compromise the computer's protection and result in vulnerabilities.
Forbidden software installed: software configured with forbidden status on the NDD Orbix portal has been installed on a computer. This could compromise the organization's security and compliance.
Software license about to expire: the software license installed on a computer will expire in less than 30 days, according to the expiration date configured in the NDD Orbix portal.
Software license expired: the software license installed on a computer has already expired, according to the expiration date configured in the NDD Orbix portal.
Software pending classification: the software has a pending status, i.e. it has not yet been configured as allowed or forbidden in the NDD Orbix portal.
Unlicensed software: the software is registered, but there is not yet a license configured for it in the NDD Orbix portal.
For more information on how to issue and manage alerts, go to Configuring alerts.
The DCA and Cloud Connector (Windows) agent must be updated to version 1.1.19, as instructed at Update the agent or gateway on portal.
New endpoint for returning software inventory in the Computers API
We have added a new endpoint to the Computers API to facilitate access to the inventory of software installed on specific devices.
Endpoint: 'GET /v1/{computerId}/inventories/softwares'
This endpoint returns detailed information about the software installed on the computer identified by computerId.
For more information on this endpoint, access the API Swagger available at Computers API.
Schedule reports to be sent by e-mail
Scheduling allows users (system or external) to receive predefined or customized reports periodically by e-mail, without the need to access the system to generate them manually.
This feature aims to increase operational efficiency by offering greater practicality and agility, as well as simplifying the use of the portal by sending reports automatically.
Example of use:
Instead of manually generating reports for the monthly billing of several customers, simply program the report to be sent automatically at the beginning of each month, saving time and making it easier to control operations.
Manage the creation, editing and deletion of schedules via the Reports > Scheduling menu. Check user permissions and group permissions to ensure access to the feature.
For more details on how to use this feature, go to Schedule reports to be sent by e-mail.
Monitoring USB thermal card printers
A new type of device is available for monitoring on the NDD Orbix portal: thermal card printers.
At the moment, monitoring consists of card printers from the manufacturer Zebra.
The main benefits of this functionality are:
Cost and resource optimization
Centralized and efficient management
Continuous and proactive monitoring
Uninterrupted operation
Data-based decision making
Personalized alerts
After installing the DCA and Cloud Connector agent and enabling and configuring the service rule, the agent will scan the device and automatically the USB thermal card printer covered by the enabled rule will be monitored and available in the inventory.
In addition, you can perform remote actions with the service (start, restart, stop and update), view and configure the service logs, perform service synchronization and monitoring settings, stop managing or re-manage a printer, view odometer information and manually add or remove a reading.
To find out more about how to start managing thermal printers, go to Managing thermal printers.
The DCA and Cloud Connector (Windows) agent must be updated to version 1.1.19 and the NDD - Thermal Monitor USB (Windows) service to version 1.4.0, respectively, as instructed at Update the agent or gateway on portal.

Fixes
Enabled EcoPrint pauses queues and prints documents with special characters (Service: NDD - Supply Watch)
When printing on Epson and Lexmark printers connected via USB with EcoPrint enabled, the print queues were paused and the printed documents could contain special characters.
To fix this, we optimized the search for the serial number of the USB printers, preventing the queue from pausing, and removed the PJL commands to prevent special characters from being printed.

Fixes
Incorrect redirection when configuring service via monitoring rules
When accessing the network printer monitoring rules from the Installations > Enable services menu, selecting a rule and clicking the Configure button, the user was directed to the settings of a service that was not related to the selected rule.
Example:
Selecting the rule associated with Customer X and clicking the Configure button opened the settings for Customer Y's service.
To fix this, we have implemented a change which ensures that the settings for the correct service are opened, according to the rule selected.

Fixes
Incorrect display of the closing date for automatically closed alerts
Alerts that were closed automatically displayed a closing date that was earlier than the opening date in the Alerts > Closed menu.
This was because the alert was processed on a date later than the one sent by the service for closure.
To fix this, we have standardized the use of the dates sent by the services for both opening and closing alerts. In addition, we have added a validation to ensure that, if the closing date is earlier than the opening date, processing uses the current date instead of the one entered.
